I always get so many questions about daily routines and how to stay organized.

When I work with clients, they always ask me how to maintain the organizing work we’ve done or even, what the first step is to take when trying to start staying organized for good.

My answer is always the same – routines. My house (and I) didn’t get organized overnight.

So here are some daily routine tips and daily routine examples (based on my daily routines) that will help you establish a daily routine schedule of your own!

*Note: depending on where you are in creating your organizing system might determine whether this works for you or not. For example, if you are struggling with removing things from your home, following through on daily schedules or simply figuring out how to get started, daily routines might not be for you… yet.

Daily Routine Schedule Tips:

  • Be sure you know what your daily routine looks like when it’s in place
  • Ensure that your daily routine is a part of a larger organization system
  • Remember to reward yourself daily
  • Reminders work! Pick something that will remind you daily and write it on a post it note or calendar
  • Surrender the outcome, don’t let expectations ruin your organization journey
  • Use a planner to write your routine and other to-do lists and appointments in

My Evening Daily Routine Example

I have several routines that I follow, just as regularly as drinking my morning coffee.

Let’s start with bedtime, as that routine sets your next day off on the right foot.

  • After dinner, I make sure that there is nothing in the kitchen sink and, if necessary, that the dishwasher is running. If there are extra dirty dishes that won’t fit in the dishwasher, I wash them by hand.
  • Then, I wipe out the sink.
  • I look at the meal plan for the next day and take the protein out of the freezer if required.
  • If the meal is one that is to be cooked in the crock pot, I’ll prepare that, too, and throw it all in the pot (putting it in the fridge) so that in the morning, all I have to do is turn the crock pot on.
  • I then scan the counters and tables in my living room, dining room, and kitchen (we have an open floor plan so all three of these rooms are visible) and put away anything laying on these surfaces.
  • I’ll prepare the coffee pot for the next morning and set the timer for it to start at 4:25 am
  • Gathering anything I need to take with me the next day (dry cleaning, items for repair, shopping lists, etc.)
  • I let the dog out to go potty.
  • When I go upstairs to the bedroom, I’ll take out my clothes for the next day and brush my teeth.
  • I wipe out the sinks.
  • I take my medications
  • Hubby and I do our devotions

Spend Time Now to Save Time (and Stress) Later

If you add up the time it took to do all of the above, you’d be looking at about 30 minutes max (unless I am prepping a crock pot meal for the next day), sometimes way less depending on how many dishes there were.

Yes, that is thirty minutes of my time, however, the dishes are done, the next day’s meal is ready to go, the coffee aroma will greet me in the morning to get my day going, and I won’t have to spend unnecessary time figuring out what to wear – I’ve saved myself a good bit of time in the long run.

Routines for Moms

If you have kids, you can consider adding these things to your evening routine to save time the next day:

  • Preparing lunches
  • Signing and returning permission slips
  • Gathering what they need for after-school activities

Here’s a daily routine example that you can use to brainstorm your own daily routine schedule.

Daily Routine Example:

6am – Wake up, drink water, wash face and brush teeth

6:15 am – Grab coffee and let the dog out

6:30 am – Prayer and Bible reading time  [A daily routine that can be done anywhere!]

7 am – Begin daily morning cleaning routine  [ This daily routine is just to set the tone for the day. I do some laundry, wipe down the kitchen counters, and sweep. Then I start my computer work.]

8 am – Plan/Schedule daily, respond to emails if needed  [This daily routine is so crucial! It sets your day up properly with all your assigned tasks.]

9 am – Work on daily task list items  [Also a daily task list item that needs attention in order to get things done throughout the day.]

11am&4pm – Drink water and Ningxia Red

12pm – Work on daily task lists items

3:30 pm – Stop and pray

3:45 pm – Midday daily schedule cleaning routine

4:15pm – Prep dinner

5:30 pm- Eat dinner with husband

6:30 pm – Watch daily nightly entertainment before bed  [This is where I settle down for the day and watch some TV or a movie to wind down.]

8:30 pm – Read and pray before falling asleep

These are just some food for thought as you establish your own daily routine schedule.

I’ve shared a worksheet and checklist to help create a daily routine schedule that works for you. In addition, you’ll have questions to answer to help you create the perfect daily routine schedule and you’ll find daily routine examples to help you on your way.

Keep your daily routine schedule handy until it becomes a habit.
