On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian Sunni-Islamic militant group Hamas launched a devastating surprise attack on Israel, causing nearly a thousand casualties and leaving almost double that injured.

This violent assault has caused immense pain and suffering among the Christian community in the region, reminding us of the importance of peace and understanding in a world where hatred and violence are far too common.

Let us all pray for those affected by this tragedy and strive for a better future for all.

The United States has committed to lending a hand to Israel in its hour of need. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in faith to ensure that their dire situation is not overlooked or disregarded.

As Christians, it is our moral obligation to demonstrate compassion and mercy towards those in need and to bring light to the darkness. Let us use this moment as an opportunity to come together and extend aid to our kindred nation of Israel.

As followers of Christ, we can unite in prayer for our brothers and sisters in Israel. Even though we can’t do much as individuals to support them, we can still come together in spirit to bring them the comfort and hope they need. Here are ten powerful prayers you can offer on their behalf.

Our hearts break as we witness the strain on the people of Israel in these difficult times. Everyone is doing their part by donating food for the army, and taking in those who were forced to flee their homes near the Gaza border with nothing but the clothes on their back. Let us draw strength from our faith and come together to support those who need us most. May God bless us all and give us strength in this time of strife.

As fellow Christians, many of you have been wondering how you can make a meaningful impact in Israel without actually being there. We’ve come up with a list of actionable items that can help make an impressive difference. From praying for peace to serving with love, these are surefire ways to show your support for the Holy Land.

  1. Connect with your Israeli and Jewish friends and family. Show them that you are with them in spirit by sending a message of love and hope. Let them know that you are thinking of them and praying for the beloved nation of Israel, their home.
  2. Praying for Israel is a vital way for Christians to show their love and support. Not only does prayer demonstrate to God our dedication to Him and His will, but it also serves as an expression of our unity with His chosen people. So let us come together and join in prayer for Israel today.
  3. Gather your Christian community in prayer! Connect over the latest updates from Israel and bow your heads in unified faith. Whether connecting online or in person, organize a prayer meeting to open the discussion and lift up your local or global neighbors. With a unified voice, let your personal and collective prayers be heard.
  4. Christians around the world should join the fight to ensure that the truth about the situation in Israel is known. Hamas is committing outrageous atrocities and crimes, and we can’t let the mainstream media dictate an untrue narrative. We must stand with Israel and SHARE the truth. Every single one of us has the power to make a difference. Let’s band together and prove that we won’t sit by while innocent lives are taken. Let’s SHARE the truth. On your walls, O Jerusalem,
    I have set watchmen;
all the day and all the night
    they shall never be silent.
You who put the Lord in remembrance,
    take no rest,
and give him no rest
    until he establishes Jerusalem
and makes it a praise in the earth.

Isaiah 62:6-7 (ESV)

Why Pray for Israel?

God has a special affection for the Jewish people, describing them as His “treasure” (Deuteronomy 7:6), His “portion” and “apple of His eye” (Deuteronomy 32:9-10). He also likens them to His “wife” (Hosea 2:19) and “bride” (Isaiah 62:5). God’s covenantal love is further highlighted in the New Testament where Paul states that all of Israel – even those who do not believe in Jesus – are still “beloved” of God with an irrevocable calling (Romans 11:28-29).

“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

Deuteronomy 7:6 (ESV)

But the Lord’s portion is his people,
    Jacob his allotted heritage.
“He found him in a desert land,
    and in the howling waste of the wilderness;
he encircled him, he cared for him,
he kept him as the apple of his eye.

Deuteronomy 32:9-10 (ESV)

Because the Bible Tells Us To

The Prophet Isaiah wrote plainly,

“and give him no rest
    until he establishes Jerusalem
and makes it a praise in the earth.”

Isaiah 62:7 (ESV)

And David is just as straightforward  in the Psalms:

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
“May they be secure who love you!”

Psalm 122:6 (ESV)

The Bible contains many directives for Christians to pray — and not just as an option. The Hebrew word for “pray” (שאלוor sha’alu) is a powerful command, reminding us to take part in this important practice. This is a mandate that was given to our ancestors and remains relevant to this day. We are all bound by the same exhortations to pray persistently. They are not just instructions for “then,” but “now” as well.

Because God Will Bless You

When God first formed a covenant with Abraham and his descendants, He made a profound promise: He would bless them and make them a great nation. This blessing was not limited to Abraham’s physical descendants, though.

Through Abraham’s descendants, God promised to bless all of humanity, sharing His love and goodness with all people.

I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Genesis 12:3 (ESV)

Israel is firmly rooted in God’s grand plan to share His love with the world. Blessing will come to all who love Him, but those who hate will face His judgment. The prophet Joel 3:1-2 foretells that God will one day judge all nations according to how they treat His chosen people, Israel. All Gentiles will be judged on whether they choose to bless or curse Israel.

Drawing from the prophet Isaiah, we can delve into God’s deep love for both His church and His chosen people, the Jews. This love motivates us to pray ceaselessly for Jerusalem’s restoration, a theme emphasized throughout the Bible, particularly in its “last days.”

Though Jerusalem’s plight may feel overwhelming, our prayers for the city and its people are far from insignificant. The city of Jerusalem is central to Christian faith and its Jewish people have played an incredibly important role in our faith. Our connection to them is profound, and our prayers can be a powerful force of deliverance for them.

God’s promises to Abraham and the Jewish people are made clear in Genesis 12:1-3, when He says He will make them a great nation and bless them and their descendants.

He reassures them that He will never leave or forsake them (Deuteronomy 7:6-8, 1 Kings 6:13). This is a powerful message that God views the nation of Israel as something special, and blesses the world through its faith.

This is articulated in John 4:22: that Israel is God’s chosen people and the source of our salvation. With this, we can recognize the immeasurable debt we owe to Israel.

The Holy Land of Israel holds a special place in the hearts of many Christians. But with two vastly different people groups—descendants of Issac and Ishmael, the patriarchs of Israel and Islam—living in the same land, conflict and tension are often close at hand. In response, we should pray with purposeful intent for God to show mercy to His people. After all, until Israel’s ancient cities are rebuilt and restored, peace in the region may remain out of reach.

Our prayers are immensely important! Through them, we can be God’s “watchmen” – guardians to those in need – as instructed in Isaiah 62:6-7. We can intercede to Him for salvation and peace for the people of Israel, all the way to the return of Jesus! Let us pray faithfully so that His will may be done.

On your walls, O Jerusalem,
    I have set watchmen;
all the day and all the night
    they shall never be silent.

Isaiah 62:6-7 (ESV)

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
“May they be secure who love you!”

Psalm 122:6 (ESV)

David’s words are crystal clear: as the body of Christ, it’s up to us to fervently pray for Jerusalem, the city of God. Let us unite as we take our prayers to the Lord in this sacred time. Let us come together in one voice and offer our hearts to the Lord for the city of Jerusalem.

Let us unite in prayer for the Chosen People of God – the people of Israel. With fervor, let us ask for the Lord’s protection and provision. Will you join me in this holy and important calling?

Prayers for Israel

O Lord, the God of Light and Salvation, we turn to You for refuge and strength in this time of escalating violence in Israel and Palestine. May Your divine grace bring comfort and peace to those affected by the chaos. Guide the hearts of all people involved, so that they may find understanding and resolution. In Your everlasting care, Amen.

Let us lift up our voices in prayer for those killed and injured in southern Israel from rocket fire from Gaza. May the Lord bring comfort and peace to those affected and be a source of strength and hope to those who are grieving. May they be reminded of His ever-present help in this time of darkness. Amen.

Let us lift up in prayer those held captive by Hamas. As they navigate this difficult season, may they not be overcome by fear, but confidently persevere in the knowledge that our Lord is with them.  May His protection be with them and His grace provide solace.

We lift up our prayers in solidarity for the civilians of Gaza, trusting in the Lord of Heaven and Earth to provide for them in this difficult time. We especially remember those who have been killed and wounded in Gaza today and lift them to the Lord in hope for peace, comfort, and healing for those in pain and those who have lost loved ones.

Heavenly Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus, asking for Your wisdom and Your guidance in the middle of the conflict between Gaza and Israel. We pray for all those in positions of leadership, that You would direct them along the paths of justice and righteousness. We trust in Your power, O Holy Spirit, to build bridges of peace and understanding in this region. Amen.

Amen.

O Lord, We ask that you bring healing to Israel. Your beloved nation has endured so much in recent days, Lord, and yet they remain close to your heart. Let Your grace restore peace and security and heal their broken hearts. Amen.

A Prayer for Israel for God’s Protection

Heavenly Father, we thank You for keeping Your promises to all generations. We thank You for the remarkable nation of Israel, who You chose to bless us with Your Word, truth, wisdom, and, ultimately, Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, we give You thanks for being a faithful God, even in our faithlessness. You remain constant and true to the promises You gave to Your chosen people, Israel – promises that are fulfilled in Christ Jesus. Though Israel has broken Your commands and turned away from Your Son, we have assurance that You will never break the covenant You made with Abraham and his descendants. Your faithfulness will endure forever!

Oh Lord, protect and guide the small nation of Israel, Your chosen people, in a world that would try to erase them and drive them out from the land You have promised them. Hear their cries of “Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord” and hasten the day when they recognize who they have pierced and repent for their sins. We place this nation in Your hands, Lord, trusting in Your infinite mercy. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Amen.

A Prayer for Israel’s Healing

As we stand in solidarity with the people of Israel during this difficult time, let us pray for healing and hope. With an ever-growing death toll and too many suffering injuries, the power of prayer can bring much-needed solace and peace to those affected. Let us remember the words of Jesus, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

In these heinous attacks, innocent civilians – everyday men, women, children, and even seniors -were killed and injured. No one should ever have to endure such a tragedy, yet the Christian faith calls us to grieve with those who suffer and comfort them in their time of need.

Let us come together in prayer for the comfort of those suffering in Israel after this tragedy. Despite the physical distance, our hearts are with them as they struggle to heal in the face of overwhelming loss. Join us in praying for hope and strength for all those affected.

Israel has faced numerous targeted attacks throughout the decades, but the recent attack was the most significant in years. For the people of Israel, a period of unrest and uncertainty now lies ahead. Let us join together in prayer, trusting that God will be their comfort in this time of great distress.

Heavenly Father, we come before you with a heartfelt plea for your healing touch to be upon Israel. Your chosen nation has endured much pain and anguish in recent days and needs your restoring power. Grant peace, healing, and security to their broken hearts and bring swift recovery to those who have been injured. Comfort those who grieve for their lost loved ones and provide a balm of solace to the heavy-laden. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

A Prayer for Israel for God’s Will

Father, You alone are reliable and loving towards Your people, Israel. Though we trust and love You, we can still struggle with fear and doubts. Oh God, please help us in these uncertain times and remind us that You make all things work for Your glory. What does not make sense to us now is all part of Your plan, something too grand for us to comprehend. Forgive us for questioning Your goodness, or doubting Your plans.

Heavenly Father, help us be vigilant watchmen, relying on You and the gift of faith to pray ceaselessly for the fate of Israel. We humbly ask that Your will be done and that Your plan will take root and bring a thriving Israel back to its rightful place, with a soft heart for You. Lead and provide sound wisdom to Israel’s leaders, and protect all of Your people who are fighting for peace. We pray for those who remain close to Your people, watching and praying over them in Your name. We trust in You and Your faithful promise to the Jews, trusting in Your perfect will and timing. Amen.

We pray this in Your holy and precious Name. Amen.

A Prayer for Israel’s Restoration

Pray for Israel’s restoration! The recent attacks against this nation have left many homes and buildings in ruin, and the people of Israel in need of spiritual and emotional healing. Let us join together and pray for restoration for all of Israel.

As followers of Jesus, it’s our duty to extend a helping hand to our brothers and sisters in Israel in their time of need. They are feeling uncertain and overwhelmed, desperately longing for a sense of hope.

It is our responsibility to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual restoration to this beloved nation, helping them find comfort and security in the promises of the Lord. Let us respond to their cry with love and compassion. Let us be a beacon of hope that allows them to emerge from darkness into the light of His grace.

Prayers can be powerful tools for beginning restoration, though the process won’t happen in a single night.

As Christians, we must keep in mind that where our faith is strong, even our most insurmountable troubles can be conquered. Praying for guidance and strength can make a remarkable difference in the restoration process.

O Lord, we ask that You bring renewal to Your beloved people of Israel and their nation. Heal their hearts and restore their cities, for this is a trying time for them. We know You love Israel, and only You have the power to grant them the spiritual and physical revival they need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer for Israel’s Justice

Christians can join in praying for justice in Israel in the wake of unexpected attacks from Hamas. Let us come together to uphold justice for both the nation of Israel and those who have been affected by these tragic acts of violence.

Israel was completely blindsided by the surprise attack, leaving them unprepared and facing even more difficulties in its wake. As a consequence, Christians around the world are standing in solidarity with the country, expressing their hope for peace and well-being.

In the face of unwarranted aggression, the people of Israel have suffered the injustice that comes with such attacks. Yet, God will not allow their plight to go unheeded. Amos 5:24 reminds us that justice will soon reign in their nation, “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream” With justice restored, God will usher Israel back to their past glory. Let us, as Christians, stand in unison with our brothers and sisters in faith, praying for God’s justice to be done.

God’s justice is never-ending, a river rolling on even during times of tragedy and darkness. While God isn’t responsible for all the pain and suffering in the world, His desire for justice – and our hope that justice will prevail – remains firm. Amos 5:24 reminds us of this, urging us to keep up the faith and rely on God’s love and mercy in the face of adversity.

He desires mercy and justice—something that seems to be increasingly rare in this fallen world. Bad things happen because of sin, separating mankind from God and leading to horrific atrocities such as war, murder, and a seemingly never-ending cycle of pain. Thankfully, hope is not lost. Despite sin’s presence, we can still find God’s mercy and justice present in the world.

O Lord God, let your justice be done in Israel, a land and people long suffering from injustice. Lift them up in your mighty hand and bring your hope, peace, and redemption to their nation. We know you can do all things, that nothing is too hard for you. Despite the injustice and affliction, you can bring about lasting change and deliver justice to those in need. We thank you, Lord, for always hearing the prayers of your beloved children. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer for Israel’s Peace

As Christians, let us all come together in prayer for peace for Israel, a nation that is currently in turmoil amid the flash of explosions and the toll of sirens and death. It is our solemn duty to join forces and ask for the Lord to bring peace to the land, healing to its people, and safety to all who call it home.

Christians need lasting peace in Israel, and they need it now. Despite the efforts put forth by the Israeli army and government to bring relief, deep emotional and psychological wounds remain in the hearts of the Israeli people. Now is the time for the international prayerful support and comfort of Christians everywhere to help Israel heal.

The wounds of 9/11 remain etched in our collective conscience, and the same goes for the horrors Israel has faced over the years. Even in the wake of such tragedy, Christians are called to console those affected and act as instruments of God’s peace in the face of despair. Just as the families of 9/11 victims still find comfort in the Lord’s love, so too can those suffering in Israel be reconciled with peace.

The Lord provides us with an incredible gift: peace (John 14:27). With this peace, we can experience an enduring assurance that never fades. Israel desperately needs this peace, and we can be part of fulfilling God’s will for the nation by praying for this comfort that only Jesus can give.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 14:27 (ESV)

Heavenly Father, We humbly pray for Your divine peace to envelop the people of Israel. Your peace surpasses all human understanding and brings hope in times of fear, uneasiness, and worry. May they be surrounded with hope, peace, and love, and may they come to know the infinite love You have for us all. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer for Israel’s Bravery

As Christians, we must continue to pray for Israel’s safety and for its people to remain brave in the face of these perilous times. It’s a frightening time for many in Israel, who fear for their safety even when leaving their homes; the attack has taken the lives of many beloved family and friends. Despite the darkness and chaos, we must stand in faith and pray that Israelis will continue to remain brave and fearless.

For Christians who have lost a loved one, it can be a painful burden to bear. It can feel like you need to be brave just to face every day, yet bravery doesn’t mean the fear goes away – it means you choose to press on despite it. You don’t have to do it alone though; turn to your faith and the support of those close to you. Let God be your comfort in the hard times, and you can come through this season with a renewed spirit.

The courage of the people of Israel was tested this past weekend; however, they must remain hopeful and strong in the face of potential future attacks. Rebuilding their nation, though a burdensome task, will be eased by the comforting hand of God. It will require considerable energy and effort, however, with faith in their Lord, the Israeli people can renew their nation and press on.

Dear Lord, we come to you asking for your aid in providing courage to the nation of Israel. Although it is a difficult time, we believe in your power to fill them with strength and bravery. Be with Israel as they navigate what lies ahead, and give them the fortitude they need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer for Israel’s Salvation

Oh Lord, we celebrate You and Your holy Name! We give You thanks for the covenant You made with Abraham and the people of Israel. Knowing Your promise that Jesus won’t return until the Jews are restored, we humbly pray that this is a time of reformation and renewal for Your chosen people – just as Romans 10:1 tells us. We rejoice even while our hearts are heavy.

We earnestly invite you, God, to bring salvation and open the eyes of the Jewish people to accept Jesus Christ as Lord. We pray for the Trinity to soften hearts and ignite a passion in the holy land. As Scripture reassures us, God will never abandon His people of Israel, so we ask for Him to cleanse the land of evil and grant them compassion, mercy, and His loving grace. Above all else, we pray for their deliverance and hope for eternal life with God, so that they may not be consumed by this world, but instead have hope for eternity.

You are a good Father, and we ask all this in Your powerful and mighty Name. Amen.
